How to setup a Facebook and Instagram Traffic campaign
- This post will show you how to setup a Facebook and Instagram campaign in Ads Manager -
Firstly log into your Facebook Business account and select Ads Manager.
Above is the Ads Manager screen, from here select Create (in green). Select a campaign objective and then continue. You can hover over each objective to learn more about what they stand for.
Create Campaign
You will now be in campaign settings where you can name your campaign. Use a naming convention that will allow you to easily remember what the objective is and what ads you are using.
eg. Company Name_Platform_Product_Objective
Company Name - Your Business
Platform - Facebook/Instagram
Product - The product you are showcasing in this campaign
Objective - The objective you selected
This is just an example and you can break it down more depending on your campaign settings.
In campaign details, you can edit your objective in case you want to change it. Just note you cannot do this once the campaign goes live so ensure you have the correct objective selected.
You also have the option to add a campaign spending limit- once your campaign has reached this limit it will stop spending.
Create Ad Set
Once you are happy with the campaign settings, select Next (bottom right)
Name the ad set, follow the campaign naming convention. If you are creating multiple ad sets, you can create one and duplicate. Just ensure all settings are correct before going live.
Select where you want the campaign to drive traffic to:
Now decide on the budget and schedule. The budget can either be lifetime or daily. Schedule the start and end date for the ad set. Under the Show More Options link, you can schedule the time and day you want the ads to show. Note - this can only be done with a lifetime budget.
Next is the adding of an audience. Either select an existing custom audience or create a new one.
You can also select the placements of where the ads will serve. Automatic placements will serve on all platforms. With manual placements, you can select where the ads will serve. I would recommend splitting ad sets per placement if you want to control the budget spend per platform or have different ads per platform.
Under Optimization and Delivery, select the event you want to optimize for. This will determine who the ad will be shown to.
Once all the ad set settings have been selected, you can view the potential reach of your ads.
Create Ad
Once you are happy with the ad set settings, select Next (bottom right).
Name the ad , follow the ad set naming convention. If you are creating multiple ad sets, you can create one and duplicate. Just ensure all settings are correct before going live.
Under Identity, select your business's Facebook page and Instagram account if relevant.
Next you will create the ad where you select the structure of your ad.
Add the media and ad copy to include details about your business. Preview the ads and copy on the right side of the screen to view how they look on each placement.
Once you are happy with the ads, select the Facebook pixel to ensure you are tracking your ads performance. This is a must if you want to be able improve your campaigns performance.
If you want to create additional ads sets and ads, now is the time to do it.
The final step is to publish - your campaign is now live 😃
